Robert Lockart received a BM in music theory with a performers certificate and MM from Eastman School in Jazz Studies, as well as attending the Banff School with Dave Holland, Kenny Wheeler, and David Liebman. As a performer he has played with the Woody Herman Orchestra, Tom Harrell Big Band, Doc Severinsen Big Band, Joe LaBarbera Quintet, Kurt Elling, and the Gordon Goodwin Big Phat band. in addition to single performances with Dave Liebman, Lee Konitz and as a soloist with the Houston Symphony Orchestra. His teachers include Dave Liebman, Al Regni, Micheal Nascimben, Joe Allard, Ramon Ricker, and Mardele Marcellus.
In Los Angeles Rob is active as a recording musician in the jazz community and TV and film. As a jazz artist he is a featured sideman with Steve Houghton, Chris Walden, Bob Sheppard, Bill Cunliffe, Matt Harris, Jeff Berlin and Mitch Watkins for Enja records. He has also recorded fro Paul Anka,Tamela D’Amico, Micheal Bolton, Arturo Sandoval and Renee Olstead and many others. He currently has his own CD “Parallel Lives” on Origin Records.
As an educator he currently teaches Saxophone At California Sate Univ. at Northridge in the Jazz studies department and is at the Idyllwild Arts Summer Jazz camp. He has also been on faculty at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, Loyola College in New Orleans and the University of Southern California. He has been a clinician at several colleges throughout the United States as a Jazz Performer and educator.
